Barcelona Collapse in Seville as Real Madrid Retake LaLiga Lead

Barcelona suffered their first defeat of the season in a shocking 4-1 loss to Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, their first defeat there in a decade. With the loss, Barça fall two points behind Real Madrid after eight rounds.

It’s been a rough week for Hansi Flick’s men, who also lost 2-1 to PSG midweek in the Champions League. Missing key players, including young star Lamine Yamal, Barcelona looked vulnerable from the start.

Former Barça forward Alexis Sánchez opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 10th minute after Ronald Araújo brought down Isaac Romero. Sevilla doubled their lead through Romero in the 37th minute, however Marcus Rashford pulled one back for Barça in first-half stoppage time with a sharp left-footed volley.

Barcelona had a golden chance to equalize in the 73rd minute after Adnan Januzaj gave away a penalty, however Robert Lewandowski missed the target. Sevilla punished the miss with two late goals from José Ángel Carmona and Akor Adams, sealing a dominant win.

Real Madrid Bounce Back After Derby Loss

Meanwhile, Real Madrid returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu. After a goalless first half that drew some whistles from the home crowd, Real Madrid exploded in the second half.

Vinícius Júnior opened the scoring just 90 seconds in with a deflected shot, then added a second from the penalty spot in the 69th minute. Villarreal responded with a goal from Georges Mikautadze, however a red card for Santi Mourino left them a man down. Kylian Mbappé sealed the win after a defensive error, scoring his 14th goal in 10 matches before being subbed off with a minor injury.

With Barça slipping and Real back on track, the title race is heating up.
