Kylian Mbappe Defends Lamine Yamal: “Focus on His Talent, Not His Private Life”

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has spoken out in defence of Barcelona’s young talent Lamine Yamal, urging critics and the media to stop invading the teenager’s personal life. Lamine Yamal, who turned 18 in July, has faced increasing media attention both for his rapid rise in football and his private life.

The Spain international recently won the 2025 Kopa Trophy, his second in a row, as the best U21 player in the world. However along with praise for his talent, Yamal has also been the subject of tabloid stories focusing on his relationships and dating history.

Kylian Mbappe, in an upcoming interview with Jorge Valdano for Movistar, said: Lamine has a real passion for football, and that’s what matters. The rest is his life. People should leave him alone.”

Lamine Yamal has also been caught in a club vs country battle over his fitness. After suffering a groin injury on Spain duty, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick criticised the national team for risking the youngster’s health. He’s only recently returned to action, with limited minutes since early September.

As someone who also rose to stardom as a teenager, Kylian Mbappe understands the pressure: “He’s just 18. Everyone makes mistakes at that age. He’ll grow, he’ll learn. All we should care about is what he does on the pitch, he’s got incredible talent.”

Mbappe himself is dealing with a similar situation, having been called up by France despite a recent ankle injury. His message is clear: ”Young stars like Yamal need support, not judgment, as they navigate fame at such a young age”.
