Carlito’s Wins Tokyo, Skips Shanghai. An Incredible 2025 Season for the World No. 1
Carlos Alcaraz continues to break new ground in 2025! The world No. 1 just captured his eighth title of the season, winning the Tokyo ATP 500 by defeating Taylor Fritz in the final with a 6-4 6-4 score line. With that, he set a new personal record for most wins in a single season, now standing at 67 victories.
At just 22 years and 140 days old, Alcaraz has become the second youngest player in ATP Tour history (since 1990) to win 24 career titles. The only player younger with as many trophies was Rafael Nadal, who reached the mark at 21 years and 321 days.

However, Alcaraz has announced he will skip the Shanghai Masters to recover from physical issues he dealt with during the Tokyo tournament. This decision also affects Novak Djokovic, who was projected to potentially face Jannik Sinner in the semis and Alcaraz in the final.
Alcaraz began his incredible 2025 campaign with a title in Rotterdam, followed by Masters wins in Monte Carlo and Rome, a Roland Garros victory, Queen’s Club, the Cincinnati Masters, the US Open, and now Tokyo. His current season record: 67 wins and just 7 losses, including 51 wins since April alone.

By winning in Tokyo, Alcaraz earned over 400,000$, bringing his 2025 prize money total to 16 million$, and his career earnings to nearly 54 million$. He’s closing in on Alexander Zverev (54.6M$) for 5th on the all-time ATP prize money list. Next targets: Andy Murray (64M$), with a realistic shot to overtake him by the end of 2026. Ahead of him remain only Djokovic (190M$), Nadal (134.9M$), and Federer (130.5M$).
